The Sydney Wars – Conflict in the early colony 1788-1817

Dr Stephen Gapps will be discussing his book The Sydney Wars – Conflict in the early colony 1788-1817. His talk will focus on the resistance by Gaimariagal people and others against the spread of European settlement to the north of the harbour, positioning this conflict in the broader Sydney Wars that occurred between 1788 and ended not long after Governor Macquarie’s sweeping military campaigns of 1816.
