Warrnambool Westcoaster - Saturday 12th October 2019
hero

The Warrnambool Westcoaster

Saturday 12th October 2019 will see steam locomotive R711 and diesel locomotive S313 thunder towards the Great South Coast from Melbourne & Geelong to Warrnambool.

With the trip beginning at Melbourne's Southern Cross Station, the train will head out of the city and towards Geelong. Here we will make a short stop to pick up passengers before we attack the famous Geelong Tunnel. R711 and S313 will make easy work of the line as they pick up speed and head towards the volcanic plains of Colac and Camperdown. From Camperdown look out above as R711 and S313 race a Grumman AgCat G164 1960’s vintage aeroplane between Camperdown and Allansford (weather dependant). The countryside will soon pass us by and all too soon the famous Lady Bay will come into view as we descend into the seaside city of Warrnambool.

Upon arrival in the Great South Coast, Tour options are available to add onto your fare, Why not try a sightseeing trip along the Great Ocean Road for the afternoon, perhaps head off for lunch with some fine wines at a local Winery, or how about a laid back pub tour around town.  --- These Tour Options are further outlined below.

Those who choose to go their own way will have just over 5 hours to explore the town. Perhaps a visit to The Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village, or a walk through Lake Pertobe Park to the beach. Otherwise it is a short walk into the town centre of Warrnambool to find lunch, visit the Art Gallery or explore the CBD.

The local Rotary Club will have a BBQ near the station and the Model Railway Club are only a short 300 metres away and will be open for viewing.

While in Warrnambool, we will be offering the opportunity for the South West's locals to join us onboard the train. Further information on our Local Steam Shuttles can be found below.

Departing Warrnambool at 6.50pm, Sit back and enjoy the sounds of the Steam and Diesel Locomotives working together to get the train underway. A short stop at Camperdown for train running purposes, before we make another stop just prior to Birregurra to water our locomotive and cross a normal V/Line service. With the locomotive topped up, we will begin the dash home to Melbourne, making a quick stop in Geelong and arriving into Southern Cross Station at 11pm.
