hero

A Melbourne Tartan Festival Special Event

In this workshop, designed for the beginners as well as for seasoned researchers, Dr. James Donaldson will share experiences of researching family history; to help others and to improve our techniques in opening up the past.

There has been an increasing interest amongst Australians of Scottish heritage to discover their roots and cultural background. Many seek to build their family history trees, but even more importantly to “flesh out” the enriching background of their forbears to bring them to life. In this workshop, designed for the beginners as well as for seasoned researchers, the intention of the presentation is to share experiences of researching family history; to help others and to improve our techniques in opening up the past.

Dr. Donaldson has researched 5000 Scottish migrants who came to New South Wales, including the Port Philip District, between the years of 1837-1840 as well as spending time in Fife, Kinross-shire and Aberdeen-shire during the past June/July 2019 in the country districts. of his own family.
