A potluck dinner is a Contradance tradition which is virtually identical to the supper that is shared at an Australian Old Time or Bush Dance.

Everyone brings something to share, it is stored away in the kitchen and then at the appropriate time the feastings are displayed on a table for evryone to help themselves. It is also traditional to help the event along by being generous, in such ways as sweeping the floor after supper, or washing and drying the dishes.
