Coming Home

Veterans returning home face multiple challenges, including unemployment, poor mental health and physical injuries. There are wounds, both mental and physical. Through the unifying and healing power of sport and initiatives, such as the Invictus Games, veterans have proven that they can overcome the mental and physical trauma inflicted through service. But the common scars remain both apparent and invisible. Gordon Traill, spent 28 years in the army, with service in Iraq. Since leaving the army he has worked as a veterans’ advocate and art mentor for Australian National Veterans Arts Museum. Now a professional photographer, Gordon has contributed to a number of books, including Unconquered: Our Wounded Warriors with Denny Neave and Catherine McCullagh. Join Gordon in conversation with Karen Middleton.
