Directors Choice Concert 'Ellingtonia Duke at 120'

On Duke Ellington’s 120th anniversary of his birth we will celebrate the most important jazz composer of the 20th Century.

Duke Ellington was one of the most prolific composers in the history of music. His music is performed from solo piano through to symphonies.

This concert will encompass the many styles of Duke Ellington, from his popular tunes to segments of his major works.

Special guest, bassist Rodney Whitaker (USA) will join our all-star high school band, Manly Jazz All Stars, to perform original arrangements transcribed from Duke’s repertoire.

Whittaker will play seminal pieces by Ellington’s revolutionary bassist Jimmy Blanton. An impressive group of seasoned musicians including international vocal sensation, Charito (Japan) will perform some of his most recognized tunes.

Join Rodney Whitaker, Charito, alto-saxophonist Andrew Speight, drummer Andrew Dickeson, pianist John Harkins and Manly Jazz All Stars, as they pay homage to jazz royalty – the great Duke Ellington.
