ABOUT THE SHOW
THIS WAY NORTH
Recently taking out Best Regional / Outer Suburban Act 2018 at The Age Music Victoria Awards, This Way North are on a steady incline. It’s easy to forget they are just a two-piece band. Drummer/vocalist Cat Leahy and guitarist/vocalist Leisha Jungalwalla create an explosive energy and expansive sound that translates effortlessly from the studio to the stage. The girls are coming back to Birre after headlining Birre Fest last year and having just finished a tour of Canada.
“These women are what makes music great. Energy, passion, beautifully crafted songs, kick-arse drummer, and a powerful frontwoman who combine to make sure you can’t stand still.”
— Higgo Triple M Radio
The triceps ain’t what they used to be but the funny bone has only gotten sharper... The Tuck Shop Ladies are an amalgamation of Australian folk music darlings Sam Lohs (Fruit) and Rosie Burgess (Rosie Burgess Trio). Strapping on a pair of ukuleles, the pair pull back the curtain to share an intimate selection of the often ridiculous, but always harmonious songs, that were birthed in the back of a tour van, to amuse only themselves.
Rach Brennan is a singer-songwriter and front woman for her band Rach Brennan & The Pines. Promising a sound that is completely their own, the Geelong outfit offer a sunny spirit to confusing emotions relating to friendship, innocence and the unabashed naivety of falling in and out of love. Their captivating live performances are bolstered by their distinctive close-knit vocal style, with jaunty and playfully arranged percussive ditties as their signature.
Doors at 7.30pm.
