Lunchtime design: Expressions of twentieth century civic

hero
Presented as part of the annual DESIGN Canberra festival (4-24 November 2019) which celebrates and promotes Canberra as a global city of design. A Craft ACT: Craft + Design Centre initiative.

Deepen your understanding of Canberra's unique design identity as the DESIGN Canberra architecture experts share some of the stories behind architectural treasures in the CBD.

Architecture is a political art because it crystallizes the public realm and shared social values. Walk to City West with architect and urbanist Bronwen Jones and discover how Griffin’s ideal of ‘liberality in public space’ was realised in the 1960’s with elegant formal squares flanked by Post-War International Style commercial and public buildings.

  • Law Courts of the ACT
  • Reserve Bank Building
  • Former ES&A | ANZ Bank
