The Apollo Quartet was formed in 2015 and consists of four of Sydney’s prominent young string players. Violinists Rebecca Gill and Kelly Tang began playing quartets together as Sydney Symphony Fellows in 2013. Their love of chamber music lead them to form the Apollo Quartet, performing collaborative chamber programmes throughout the year. Rebecca is now a permanent player with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and Kelly is on a contract with the Opera Australia Orchestra, however they both thoroughly delight in the collaborative and unique experience that is the string quartet. The quartet’s violist Charlotte Fetherston, is an accomplished musician, having completed her Doctorate in Musical Arts at the Sydney Conservatorium. After a fellowship with the Sydney Symphony, Charlotte toured internationally with violinist Nigel Kennedy. Charlotte is not only an avid musician, she is currently also studying fine art at the National Art School. Heather Lindsay is the quartet’s well loved cellist (if ever there were an audience choice award!). Heather performs frequently with the Opera Australia Orchestra as well as other major Australian orchestras. She is particularly passionate about chamber music and is currently the founder and artistic director of the successful Craven Creek Chamber Music Festival. The Apollo quartet are thrilled to be in Newtown performing this exciting program.
