Smoking Cessation Course 2020
Thursday 19 to Friday 20 March

A 2 day evidence based course empowers professionals to treat and manage nicotine dependency.

Taking an holistic approach using proven evidence based techniques, the course is presented by active experts and helps skill participants to be able to work effectively one on one with clients for effective nicotine management and health outcomes.


Taking a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach and using a variety of teaching methods, topics covered include:

  • Smoking in Australia - facts and figures
  • Impact of smoking on health
  • Effect of nicotine on body and brain
  • Nicotine withdrawal syndrome
  • Measuring nicotine dependence
  • Treating symptom withdrawal
  • Using medications effectively
  • Special groups -  diabetes, pregnancy, teenagers
  • Smoking and mental illness
  • Behavioural interventions
  • What works and what doesn't
  • Setting up a smoking cessation clinic
  • Case studies
  • Evaluating the intervention
  • Mindfulness practice

This activity has been approved for 14 CPD points and is endorsed by the Australian Association of Smoking Cessation Professionals.

You will be sent a predisposing activity prior to the course which will need to be completed and returned before the program commences.  To qualify for 14 points, participants must complete the predisposing and reinforcing activities and the feedback form.

Location & Time

Sessions generally kickoff at 8:30 for 8:45 am start finishing 5pm daily.
