Thrown and Altered Workshop with Maryke Henderson

The Gold Coast Potters are pleased to host this 2 day  thrown and altered masterclass with well known  Canberra-based ceramicist, Markye Henderson. Maryke is a master potter and teacher who has a wealth of knowledge to share in creating thrown and altered forms.

This workshop/masterclass is aimed at participants who already have  wheel throwing skills and wish to improve upon these skills. Maryke will show various techniques of altering thrown forms, from quirky sculptural forms to controlled cut and paste functional ware. During the workshop Maryke will show examples of her work, talk about the development of ideas and inspiration.
Participants will be encouraged to experiment with new techniques and will develop confidence and skills on the potter’s wheel. There will be demonstrations and discussion related to throwing and altering various forms, spout making, (including the long spouted pouring vessels that Maryke is known for) and joining techniques. The emphasis for the workshop is on skills development, not finished works.
We will concentrate on having fun, experimentation and looking at ideas for further development and particpants are encouraged to explore these techniques to create their own style of work.
Morning tea is provided both days and we ask that attendees bring their own lunch, to share if you like, while you make the most of talking about clay.
