hero

With further changes by the Australian and Victorian Governments to control the spread of Coronavirus, Steamrail Victoria has now cancelled all upcoming planned tours until at least the end of May 2020.

The Rail and Sail Tour planned for Sunday 3rd May 2020 is now cancelled. All passengers who have booked tickets will be issued a full refund in line with the timelines as published in Steamrail's Refund Policy available on our website.

Further tours in May 2020 have now been cancelled.

Our Volunteers once again appreciate everyone's support and understanding on this matter. Our full statement regarding all upcoming tours can be found on our Facebook Page. We will continue to provide updates on our heritage train tours following review of all known information as it comes to hand.

A great day out for the whole family; with Steamrail Victoria's Rail and Sail tour providing three exciting options for you to choose from:

1. Sail First from Melbourne, Docklands to Geelong and Return by Rail to Melbourne, Southern Cross (Sail First)

This option involves a 9:30am departure of the ‘Victoria Star’ from Docklands, only a 15 minute walk from Southern Cross Station (Victoria Harbor Promenade, Docklands. Located behind Marvel Stadium, adjacent to the Harbour Esplanade Tram Stop).

The Victoria Star will cruise down the Yarra River and then leisurely travel across Port Phillip Bay providing the opportunity to take in views of the city and the bay that you would not normally see.  The Victoria Star is scheduled to arrive at Steampacket Pier (near Cunningham Pier) in Geelong at approximately 1:20pm.

You will then have time to explore Geelong and it’s waterfront before heading back to the Geelong Railway Station for the 3:55 pm departure of our Heritage Steam Train, on its Journey back to Melbourne, arriving at 5:15pm.  A contrasting journey to the morning’s Sail on the Bay.

2. Rail First from Melbourne, Southern Cross to Geelong and Return by Sail to Melbourne, Docklands (Rail First)

This option starts off with our Heritage Steam Train departing from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station at 10:40am.  The train is scheduled to arrive in Geelong at 12:00pm.

You will then have time to explore Geelong and the Waterfront, before making your way to Steampacket Pier (near Cunningham Pier) for the scheduled 2:00pm sailing of the ‘Victoria Star’.

Finish the afternoon off enjoying the leisurely homeward journey across Port Phillip Bay and then up the Yarra River for an arrival at approximately 6:20pm.  Once again, a contrasting style to the morning’s Rail journey.

3. Rail from Melbourne, Southern Cross to Geelong and Return to Melbourne, Southern Cross (Rail Only)

This option provides a return rail journey from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station through to the coastal city of Geelong.

The forward journey gets underway with a 10:40am departure from Melbourne and an expected arrival time in Geelong of 12:00pm.

You then have close to four hours to explore Geelong and its magnificent waterfront.

In the afternoon the return journey will commence with a 3:55pm departure from Geelong and an arrival back in Melbourne at 5:15pm.

VICTORIA STAR
‘Victoria Star’ in a previous life was Sydney ferry ‘Lady McKell’.  In this guise, she transported millions around the harbour and was a three times winner of the Great Sydney Ferry Race.  With no expense spared she has been transformed into a luxury pleasure cruiser to sail on Port Phillip Bay.  She features large upper and lower decks, with areas of both indoor and outdoor seating, plus a fully licensed bar with light refreshments.
THE VINTAGE TRAIN
The ‘Geelong Flyer’ is part of ‘The Vintage Train’, fully restored by Steamrail as an important part of Victoria’s rail heritage.  Our steam locomotives are coal or oil fired and date from 1889 to 1952, while the carriages range from 1906 vintage.  The train features beautiful timber work, walk-through corridors, comfortable compartment style seating, a licensed bar and kiosk, and toilets with washrooms.  All rail seating is reserved.

FEATURING DOUBLE HEADED K CLASS LOCOMOTIVES.
