Managing Incontinence: A Wicked Problem - Online

hero
Join us for a free online Professional Development session with Dr Joan Ostaszkiewicz.
Incontinence is a longstanding pervasive biopsychosocial problem that was written about as early as the 2nd millennium B.C. in Egyptian manuscripts. In this presentation, it will also be framed as a ‘wicked problem’ because of its complexity as a biopsychosocial issue. Wicked problems have no quick fixes. They are not solved using our usual standard linear ways of problem solving. Moreover, we all have diverse ways of understanding the problem and therefore have different ways of approaching its solution. This presentation will include information about the silenced and stigmatised socially complex nature of incontinence; the low health literacy about incontinence, and the lack of disease prestige at a healthcare system and policy level. To address a wicked problem what we need to do is choose to work on one aspect of the entire problem that seems to have the best potential for improvement. Delegates will be invited to choose from a range of strategies to ‘fix’ the problem. For further information on Dr Joan Ostaszkiewicz visit our State Conference website page here
