Getting to Know the Indigenous Boarding Sector #3
Sport and Indigenous education have a strong association and so do these boarding facilities.
AFL Cape York House through their separate Boys House and Girls House residential boarding in Cairns attracts young Indigenous men and women from some of Far North Queensland’s most remote communities who attend seven secondary schools in the Cairns area.
NRL Cowboys House in Townsville also has a Boys Campus and a Girls Campus. The young Indigenous men and women who call Cowboys home, from some of North Queensland’s most remote and educationally disadvantaged communities, attend a number of school around Townsville.
Both NRL Cowboys House and AFL Cape York are purpose-designed and culturally respectful environments that are not only supported by their sporting codes but rally corporate support.
It has been suggested that these stand-alone boarding residences that can access a range of school options to find the “best fit” educational option for every student are the future of Indigenous boarding.
Join this Getting to Know the Indigenous Boarding Sector webinar to hear how they are succeeding.
