Getting to Know the Indigenous Boarding Sector #4
Unity College SA (Areyonga community NT) and
Yiramalay/Wesley Studio School WA (Bunuba community WA)
Unity College is a Lutheran school in Murray Bridge SA and Wesley College, a multi-campus school in Melbourne. Both organisations have developed a mutually respectful “two way” relationship with different remote Indigenous communities to provide educational pathways for their young people.
Wesley College have partnered with the Bunuba community in the Kimberley and created the Yiramalay/Wesley Studio School which was nationally recognised by winning the IEBA/ABSA Excellence in Indigenous Boarding Award in 2019. The school’s purpose is to create a better Australia through respect, community-mindedness and reconciliation.
Unity College has a relationship with Areyonga, a small town located approximately 220 km west of Alice Springs. They run the ‘CASLAU’ – Central Australian Students Learning at Unity program.
Join this webinar to learn how these relationships were developed, the challenges that present and how it “works” for the school, the Indigenous families and their children.
