ZOOM KEYNOTE SPEAKER: 8 July - 1.00pm to 2.00pm - Patti Miller: The Search for Wild Beauty

Patti Miller

Author of The Last One Who Remembers, Whatever The Gods Do, the award winning The Mind of a Thief, Ransacking Paris, Child, (A&U) and best-selling texts, Writing Your Life, The Memoir Book and Writing True Stories.

Her latest, ‘The Joy of High Places’, was published in 2019. Patti publishes in national newspapers and journals and teaches memoir writing atuniversities, Faber Academy, Writers’ Centres, and in Paris and London. Patti will talk about The Joy of High Places and the longing for wild beauty. She will explore the way she found her reserved and distant brother through their shared joy in high places – and his extraordinary courage in learning to walk again after he fell from the sky.

ZOOM MEMBER SPEAKER: 12.40pm - 1.00pm - Cindy Davies - From Iran to the Illawarra, NSW - An Illustrated Talk
Cindy Davies

Cindy has worked and travelled extensively in the Middle East. In her talk she will present The Revolutionary’s Cousin, a sequel to her first novel The Afghan Wife, set in Iran during the 1979 Islamic revolution. The Revolutionary’s Cousin follows the characters as they join the diaspora from Iran. In both America and Australia, Karim and Zahra end up on the wrong side of the law. The novel explores how family loyalty comes at a price and how international political tensions affect individual lives. Cindy discusses the research involved in writing a novel which is set on three continents.
