Apples and Pears

WHAT: Sean O’Riordan’s black comedy thriller, set in contemporary North London, explores the dark edges of friendship, love, lust, family and betrayal as two crooks meet up after a lifetime of fear and bitterness.

Hiding from the criminal mate he betrayed, lonely chess-mad Max hatches a winning plot to defeat his rival. But when he opens his front door to a mystery woman, his plan falls apart and he has to improvise for his life to avoid a deadly checkmate.

O’Riordan was dared to write this play by Lex Marinos, his fellow teacher at the Actors College of Theatre and Television and well-known stage and screen actor (The Slap, Who Do You Think You Are?). They were joined by ACTT colleague Deborah Jones and actor-producer Tiffany Stoecker as together they work-shopped, honed and polished the final draft for production.

This world premiere production, directed by and starring both O’Riordan and Jones themselves, also features Eleanor Ryan and Geoff Sirmai as Max. Co-directed by Siobhan Lawless with set design by Andrea Espinoza, costumes by Robin Monkhouse and lighting design by Tony Youlden.

Warning! This hilarious but disturbing play features sadistic dentistry, threats of head renovation… and a dangerous set of stairs.
