2016 Regional Academy Trials
2016 REGIONAL ACADEMY PROGRAM
Netball Queensland implements the Netball Australia Dare to Develop a Diamond (DTDAD) content along with Netball Queensland core components which is delivered into the 12 Regions as part of the Netball Queensland Regional Academy.
The Regional Academies form an important step in the individual Athletes Pathway. Netball Queensland is responsible for managing the overall program of the individual athlete. This is a critical aspect of ensuring that the program works to the ultimate level for each athlete in relation to overall number of games they play, their training and recovery loads and managing of fatigue and injuries which may arise. This is referred to as the Daily Training Environment (DTE) and should also be integrated into Association and Club’s individual athlete load management.
The continuation of the Netball Queensland Academy (NQ Academy) will also provide an opportunity for up to 30 Regional Academy athletes to be part of this next stage of development within the Netball Queensland Athlete Pathway. The NQ Academy will be named in February following the Regional Academy Training Camp in January.
Each Regional Academy accepts athletes who are 14-16 years old. Athletes are eligible to trial for one Regional Academy which services the association they participate in and are a registered member.
The Netball Australia Dare to Develop a Diamond (DTDAD) content and the Netball Australia Develop a Diamond Program Curriculum provides development, education and support structures for athletes to easily integrate to the next level of the elite pathway and focuses on individual athlete development. The program will focus on athletic development, acquisition of elite skills and the broader concepts of injury prevention, recovery, lifestyle management and education. This Program also provides the opportunity for grassroots coach development.
The Regional Academies are proudly endorsed and supported by Netball Australia and Netball Queensland.
Netball Queensland conducts a trial day in October/November for each Regional Academy Program at a venue within the Region. A set selection criteria is implemented for these trials. At any stage Regional Academy athletes may be invited to specialist sessions within the NQ Academy program. Talent Identification is also conducted each year at nominated events. These athletes are invited to a Regional Academy session and may be offered a position.
A qualified and accredited Netball Queensland Coach provides athletes with development in the following netball specific areas:
- Ball Skills
- Attacking / Defending
- Court Application
- Positional Play
Squads of approximately 15-20 athletes are selected for each Regional Academy and invited to participate in the 10 month program from approximately January – October.
The squads attend a Training Camp in January in Brisbane
Athletes participate in up to 10 scheduled training sessions or camps
Pre and post season fitness/competency testing
Home based strength and conditioning sessions
Athletes who have been identified at a Regional Academy session in July/August may be invited to attend the TID Camp which will be held in September 2016 in conjunction with Underage State Sections.
All Netball Queensland Regional Academy athletes are required to pay an athlete levy of $450 including GST if selected. The payment structure for the levy is: $200 non-refundable deposit due in January with the balance due by March. A payment plan can be arranged upon request. This levy assists in covering the overall expense of the program including:
