The Antipodean Steampunk Exhibition

Steampunk is a new craft-based movement that is taking the world by storm. It merges a 19th century aesthetic with scientific invention, salvage and new technology. The Antipodean Steampunk Show takes the viewer on a fascinating retro-futuristic journey into the visionary custom-made contraptions of a new world.

Standard Exhibition Entry

History of Steampunk

Writer Michael Pryor has published more than twenty-five fantasy books and over forty short stories, from literary fiction to science fiction to slapstick humour. Michael will discuss the history of the steampunk genre, its influences and where steampunk has gone since first being coined as a term in the 1980s. First used to describe a science fiction subgenre - Steampunk has grown in to a visual style, a philosophy and a movement. The talk will conclude with discussion of how to write your own steampunk.

A Steampunk Conversation

Come and Join us for a Steampunk Conversation, a glass of bubbles and a wander through the Antipodean Steampunk exhibition after dark. Hear from three prominent Melbourne based Steampunk artists; Cliff Overton, Caleb Heinselman and Alexandra Gill-Chambers.

Steampunk Goggle Making For Kids

Create your own iconic Steampunk artefact! Cliff will appear in costume as 'maduncle' and the workshop will be presented in theatrical style. Using materials such as cardboard tubes, cellophane and pipe cleaners, children will make their very own pair of goggles and then finish the workshop with a fashion parade of their creations.
