This is your final chance to catch the Deeper than Dancing films before we round out the weekend in the best way we know how – a dance party, of course! Come dance away the afternoon to local band Late November, followed by a DJ set by Dancenorth's very own Felix Sampson!

Vital Dance Experience - Gentle Seated Dance Class

Part of the global Dance for Parkinson’s program, our Vital Dance classes inspire, support and empower participants to move. The classes take participants through a range of gentle movements and dancers can choose to remain seated should they prefer.
This experience will be co-facilitated by Deeper than Dancing film star Ivor, and include live cello accompaniment by Rike Wolf.

Dance For Absolute Beginners

Dancenorth is delighted to return with Dance For Absolute Beginners, a specially designed class series for people who “can’t dance.” Over six weeks, participants will learn general dance movements, pathways and co-ordinations, guided by experienced teachers in a friendly, supportive environment. Accompanied by great tunes, classes will be relaxed and informative, encouraging safe and efficient movement, social connections and all-round good vibes. By the end of the six weeks, participants will feel stronger and more aware of their bodies, as well as feel more relaxed and confident about finding their own natural groove.
The course is designed as an introductory experience for absolute beginners – no experience or natural skill necessary.

Celebrate International Day of People with Disability 2023 with Dancenorth Australia and Townsville Community Learning Centre.
International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations sanctioned day that celebrates the contributions and achievements of people with disability and promotes awareness, understanding and acceptance in our community.
Each year, Dancenorth collaborates with a group of students from Townsville Community Learning Centre to create an original dance performance. This year, the group has been inspired by their favourite places.
International Day of People with Disability will be Auslan interpreted and include inclusive participatory dance opportunity for all mobilities.

Celebrate International Day of People with Disability 2022 with Dancenorth Australia.
International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations sanctioned day that celebrates the contributions and achievements of people with diverse abilities and promotes awareness, understanding and acceptance in our community.
The theme for this year’s International Day for People with Disability is ‘Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world.’
Each year, Dancenorth collaborates with a group of students from Townsville Community Learning Centre to create an original dance performance. In 2022 we are excited to also welcome a small ensemble of artists with disability to the stage, who have been working together through November as part of our ‘Deeper than Dancing’ project.

Test Subject is a live dance experiment that employs a computer as the dictator of a dance show. Designed and directed by the award-winning choreographer, sound designer, and software coder, Alisdair Macindoe, the Dancenorth Ensemble will engage in a live dance experiment where they will follow and respond to the outputs of an intelligently designed computer operating system.

A new work by Dancenorth Australia.
Tens of thousands of years ago, a genetic mutation gave rise to the physical manifestation of red hair in humans. Now, like many, they are endangered.
Air is slowly emptying from a large transparent inflatable structure, ultimately sealing its inhabitants in preserved isolation.
Dancenorth uses the plight of its dancers as an allegory for a contracting world. A world where ecosystems and minorities are increasingly suffocated and silenced.
