We are privileged to welcome again Dr Daniel Heller from the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation (ACJC) at Monash University, who has recently been working with our Year 10 students as part of the Adva Leadership program on “Navigating Challenging Conversations.” This program, which is now embedded as part of the Year 10 curriculum, has been generously sponsored by the Bruder family.
Dr Heller brings extensive expertise in Jewish studies, education, and psychology-informed approaches to communication, and is a key contributor to the Monash Brave Conversations Project - an initiative designed to equip young people with the skills to engage thoughtfully and respectfully with complex and often emotionally charged issues. In his work with our students, Dr Heller has focused on helping them navigate increasingly challenging conversations around Jewish identity, Israel, and antisemitism, particularly in today’s highly polarised social, educational, and online environments. His sessions explore the importance of “brave conversations,” grounded in both contemporary research and Jewish tradition, where respectful disagreement, critical thinking, and emotional awareness are seen as essential skills. Developing the confidence, knowledge, and skills to respond with clarity, resilience, and empathy is more important than ever.
