Wollondilly Council offers a range of free courses for residents at the Wollondilly Community Nursery. Courses include plant propagation, composting & worm farming, keeping bees and growing & cooking seasonal vegetables.

Wildlife First Aid Course for Wollondilly Residents

Sunday 27 September 2020
Join us for a short wildlife first aid course, presented by local wildlife rehabilitator Jamie from Wollondilly wildlife in conjunction with Wollondilly Shire Council. Topics include: How to help injured native animals? What to do and who to call? Basic first aid for wildlife NPWS requirements How you can help support wildlife? Q & A session with experienced Native Animal rescuers There will be limited spots due to covid-19 requirements. There are 2 sessions available.

Introduction to Bush Regeneration and Land Management

Keeping Chickens and Quail at Home

Learn how to keep chickens at home including feeding, housing, managing pests and diseases. Japanese Quail are an excellent small garden alternative for those without much space. If your preferred date is booked out you can email nursery@wollondilly.nsw.gov.au to go onto the wait list.

Composting and Worm Farming

Between Thursday 29 August 2019 and Thursday 23 April 2020
Learn how to have your own compost and worm farm at home. Turn your kitchen and garden organic waste into nutrient rich compost for a thriving garden. This is a great way to divert excess waste from landfill. Participants receive the choice of a free Compost Bin or Worm Farm. (Limit of 1 per Wollondilly household). If your preferred session is booked out please email nursery@wollondilly.nsw.gov.au to be added to our wait list in case of cancellations.

An Introduction into Natural Bee Keeping and Native Bees

Learn the basics of natural bee keeping including obtaining bees, housing, general care and honey extraction. Learn more about native bees and how to attract more of them to your garden. Harmony Day Community Tree Planting

Harmony day is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Wollondilly Council invites you to participate in a community planting day to help restore the endangered ecological community of Shale Sandstone Transition Forest. After a successful planting day last December we are keen to expand on the great effort that the community made in getting over 150 plants in the ground. Join us for a morning of planting helping to create habitat for native animals.

Walk and Talk at Thirlmere Lakes

The Macarthur Nature Photography Competition 2019 is open we are holding a free Walk and Talk at Thirlmere lakes our special guest Mark Fuller. Mark Fuller used his love of wildlife photography and experience as a print-based Graphic Designer to produce a photo guide to the birds of western Sydney. With 50,000 printed to date Mark uses the guides to help people connect with nature through getting to know their local birdlife, a process he calls ‘Avianation’.
