Maidstone Community Centre

Maidstone Community Centre is a Council run multi-purpose community centre that welcomes people of all ages, cultures and abilities. We provide an exciting range of community programs and activities focused towards enriching and supporting our community. Our programs include health and wellbeing; language and literacy; digital literacy; art and craft; social and recreational programs.

    Join a relaxed walk and talk with other local fellas. Come once to check it out or every week if you like! Walk for 30-45 minutes, finish with a coffee, before getting on with your day. Tell a mate or come on your own!

    This wonderful new group is for Spanish speaking families. Children will have the opportunity to practice the language through songs, games, and general conversation. Participants hope to create lifetime friendships with other Spanish speaking families so the children can grow up using their native language. Only Spanish will be spoken . Please just enrol your children. Adult enrolment is not required.

    Come along for one - to - one reading, group reading and literacy based fun activities. Afternoon tea is also provided. The club is aimed at primary aged children who may not get to read at home, can’t afford tuition or find reading challenging. Turn up on a Thursday to see if this club is suitable for your child.

    This group has been created as a social group for gay, lesbian, queer, transgender and intersex parents and their parent friends in Melbourne’s inner west. Their hope is to connect LGBTQI parents so they can create positive friendships with other families and their children can feel part of a bigger community. Families who are friends of LGBTQI families are also welcome. Please just enrol your children. Adult enrolment is not required.

    Who wants to come and learn how to make authentic Thai, Malaysian and Singaporean steamy soups? Deb Ong, former owner of Jack B Nimble, will teach you how to make a superb Tom Kha Gai - A Thai soup traditionally made with chicken, coconut milk and flavoured with galangal, chilli, coriander, and lemongrass. A delicate Singaporean fish soup made with ginger and collard greens and a surprise Nonya ‘dessert’ soup made with sago pearls!

This fab workshop will discuss some easy-to-action ways to maintain an eco-friendly lifestyle while navigating the big, wild world of parenthood. This will include an intro to cloth nappies as well as a bundle of tips and tricks for reducing your overall footprint. All are welcome including kids!

Run by Luis from our People of Maidstone post, he will teach you how to make Caldo Verde a kale and chorizo soup, fresh cod fish cakes, tomato rice and roast piri piri chicken, a delicious salad and of course those mouth watering Portuguese tarts!

    This FREE online four-week program is run by Lucy Liga, a local yoga and qigong practitioner. Qigong helps to connect the mind to the breath and physical movements. It helps calm the mind and relieves anxiety and emotional stress. In these sessions Lucy will explore what anxiety is and help you recognise anxiety in the body and use breath work, qigong and mindfulness as tools to be able to draw on when experiencing being overwhelmed, stressed or anxious.

    In this 3.5 hour workshop, students will be given creative freedom to design and construct a Nicho shrine shadow box, including painting the base, cutting and colouring tin, decorating using a large variety of traditional and pop culture mixed media and finally creating a collage base picture.     If you want to explore the tantalising, deep, aromatic flavours and spices of Morocco, Tunisia and Libya well here’s your chance! Think preserved lemons, olives and turmeric, dried fruits and nuts, cinnamon, dates, nutmeg and succulent fall off the bone chicken. You’ll be creating and sitting down to eat a beautiful Moroccan Chicken, a fragrant Tunisian Pilaf and mouth watering Libyan date filled biscuits!

    Paint your own amazing skateboard in this three hour workshop with Anna from A is for Art. Students will first learn how to sketch a design on paper, then transfer it onto the board and colour using paint and markers. And finally how to seal with lacquer. No experience necessary.
