Maidstone Community Centre

Maidstone Community Centre is a Council run multi-purpose community centre that welcomes people of all ages, cultures and abilities. We provide an exciting range of community programs and activities focused towards enriching and supporting our community. Our programs include health and wellbeing; language and literacy; digital literacy; art and craft; social and recreational programs.

    Come and increase your physical health and wellbeing by joining Fleur’s Yoga. This class will help improve your flexibility, increase muscle tone, and help you unwind and de-stress. Tailored to suit all levels from beginners to advanced. Due to COVID-19, this class will be Live streamed through Zoom. You can join us on a computer, tablet or smart phone. If joining on a tablet or smart phone, you can go to the App Store or play store to install the Zoom app.

    Flamenco is a UNESCO Heritage listed art form, traditional to the gypsies of Andalusia. Its roots trace back to the 19th Century, carrying pieces of Indian, Arabic and Spanish culture. Learn basic techniques and choreography whilst improving fitness, building confidence and feeling empowered by this strong, passionate dance style. No experience necessary. Bring: Closed shoes with a solid (preferably low) heel. Long wide skirt (not compulsory).

    If you like the idea of understanding the importance of the waterways from an Indigenous perspective, while exploring the Maribyrnong River on the Blackbird cruise boat and enjoying a picnic prepared by Mabu Mabu, an indigenous local café, well this afternoon is for you!     In this 3.5 hour workshop, students will be given creative freedom to design and construct a Nicho shrine shadow box, including painting the base, cutting and colouring tin, decorating using a large variety of traditional and pop culture mixed media and finally creating a collage base picture.     Autumn is a heady time in the kitchen with so many fruit and vegetables in session. Humitas might be the ultimate celebration a vegetable stew featuring corn and pumpkin, traditionally served at Easter in Argentina. We'll also whip up a fresh eggplant pickle, roll out Indian sweet potato flatbreads, and make a classic apple tarte tatin for dessert. Lunch to follow.

    In this 3 hour workshop students will create a wire armature (frame) base, or use one of ours, then create form, shape and features using aluminium foil. Cover with masking tape and paint, finally add detail using a variety of papers to create garments and hair. Suitable for complete beginners.
