Strathfield Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra based in the inner west Sydney suburb of Strathfield. The orchestra aims to promote music-making in the community, to provide exciting and enjoyable concert programs, to nurture young talent, and to showcase the works of Australian composers.

Strathfield Symphony presents The Future

50 is the new 30! Strathfield Symphony at 50 years young is looking towards the next 50 years. We come together and perform through a love of music, collaboration and community.  This concert is all about bigger and better future and you can't get much bigger than Mahler's Symphony No.5.  And just because that doesn't give the brass nearly enough to do, we will introduce the concert with Copeland's Fanfare for the Common Man.  Onwards and upwards!

Strathfield Symphony presents The Big 5-0

It's the big 5-0! Our gala concert to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Strathfield Symphony's formation in 1969. The founding conductor of Strathfield Symphony, The late Richard Gill was planning on returning to conduct the second half of this program, so we are presenting this concert in his honor.  Elena Kats-Chernin's Redmyre suite, Miriam Hyde's Happy Occasion overture, Khachaturian's Spartacus and Beethoven's Symphony No.7.

Strathfield Symphony presents The Romantics

Between Saturday 29 June 2019 and Sunday 30 June 2019
Is there any greater celebratory work than the 1812 Overture? We think not! How will we fit the cannons into the Town Hall? You will have to be there to find out. William Walton's Viola concerto joins the program as a tribute to our fantastic viola section who boast the highest percentage of volunteers that help keep the orchestra running (our treasurer, secretary, vice president and concert caterer are all violas!). The Saint-Säens organ symphony rounds out the concert.

Strathfield Symphony presents Classical

Between Saturday 6 April 2019 and Sunday 7 April 2019
We start our year of celebration off in regal style with Zadok the Priest which has been performed in celebration of every English coronation since 1727. The classical celebration continues with Haydn's Symphony no.104 ("The London") and his popular Trumpet Concerto and finally Prokovief's Classical Symphony which he wrote in the style of Haydn.  Joining us for this classical celebration concert will be our long time collaborators, Excelsia Choir and our own principal trumpet, Matthew Gately

Strathfield Symphony presents Czech Please!

A trail of breadcrumbs begins our second season for 2018. Beginning ‘Czech Please’ with Humperdinck’s Prelude from Hansel and Gretel, Strathfield Symphony will be performing Paganini’s Violin Concerto performed by Tinel Dragoi. Our second half will be sure to invoke feelings of patriotism. Heralding from the New World, Dvorak’s Ninth Symphony is one symphonic masterpiece not to be missed.

Saturday 7 April 2018
A lost slipper and a handsome prince, join us for our first concert season of 2018 as Strathfield Symphony performs wonderful pieces from some of the most famous ballets of all time. Featuring music from Prokofiev’s Cinderella, De Falla’s The Three Cornered Hat, Delibes Coppelia and a depiction of the hours of the day through Ponchielli’s Dance of the Hours, this season is sure to provoke tears and laughter.

Strathfield Symphony Orchestra Season 4: War & Triumph

Between Saturday 25 November 2017 and Sunday 26 November 2017
A protest against censorship from the Russian empire, a bewitched swan and a doomed prince, War and Triumph explores the inner workings of humanity. Beginning with Brahm’s tongue in cheek Academic Festival Overture, followed by Mozart’s Concerto in C for Flute and Harp. Sibelius’ Finlandia – evoking the national struggle at the time of the Finnish people. Our final season for the year will delve into the depths of despair through the rich music of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.

Strathfield Symphony Orchestra Season 3: Tears and Laughter

Strathfield Symphony Orchestra presents a weekend of ‘Tears and Laughter’ with our first ever opera highlights concert. Performing alongside Excelsia College Choir and Sydney Sakura Choir, Strathfield Symphony Orchestra will be playing works from Rossini’s well known Barber of Seville, and Thieving Magpie, Verdi’s La Traviata and Aida, the Hummingbird Chorus from Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, and excerpts from Bizet’s Carmen. Please join us for one concert that you will not want to miss!

Strathfield Symphony Orchestra Season 2 2017: One and All

Between Saturday 24 June 2017 and Sunday 25 June 2017
This season, Strathfield Symphony presents music for one and all with works by Mozart, Beethoven and Schumann. The journey begins with the ‘fiancée swapping’ overture from Mozart’s opera Cosi Fan Tutte before presenting Beethoven’s violin concerto, performed with renowned Australian soloist Alistair Duff-Forbes.
