The Stirling Women’s Shed is an exciting partnership between The City of Stirling and The Joy of Wood. The City of Stirling and The Joy of Wood are committed to working together to continue the growth and development of the Stirling Women’s Shed. Both organisations recognise the value of a space for women to learn, connect and thrive.
Membership of the Stirling Women's Shed has benefits and responsibilities. By becoming a member, you are supporting the establishment and running of this exciting facility. Members are entitled to discounted fees for Workshops, for Scheduled Open Sessions, and free entry to Member-only Special Events and Gatherings.
Membership is open to all Women aged 16 upwards, including people who identify as female.

In this workshop your will learn how to sharpen saws - well you will begin the saw sharpening journey. Learn about Rake, Fleam and Set. You will be given a saw to sharpen - and it is then yours to keep. Understanding more about saws will change the way you use saws, and how you select them. Introduction to the Compound Mitre Saw

A recent addition to the small machinery in the Stirling Women's Shed has been a Compound Sliding Mitre Saw. These are in common use amongst tradespeople like carpenters, joiners and furniture makers.
This large power tool offers the ability to do easy, fast and accurate square cuts to timber up to 300mm wide, but you can also easily "dial up" an angle to cut your timber ends to a required angle.
A training workshop for Stirling Women's shed Members with a min. age of 16 years.
Come and learn to safely and effectively use this versatile machine.
A demonstration of competency is required to use this saw at the SWS.

Make a Small Picture Frame

Unlock the mystery of picture framing!
In this workshop we will learn to make our own frame profiles using wooden moulding planes, making provision for the glass and the ply back. We will cut the mitres and glue up the frames, and fit the backs and the glass. You can add your own finish later to your completed frame. The glass (150mm x 250mm) and all materials are included in the fee.

Spoon carving is such fun-but sometimes it can be hard to work out how to hold those small pieces of wood while we carve them into our little scoops and small spoons. In this workshop you will learn how to make and use jigs and devices to hold those tricky little pieces.

Ever wonder how a straight piece of wood gets bent into a cool shape? This workshop will introduces the process of steam bending wood. Learn how to prepare the wood, make a former and use a steam box to bend a simple curve into a kitchen spatula.
*Please note your spatula must remain cramped to former for several days to dry and will need to collected and completed the following week during an Open Session time (M 9-12, Th 4-7 or Sat 1-4).

Discover the joy of shaping a bird from a lovely piece of wood using traditional whittling methods. Comfort birds can be used like a fidget spinner for adults! They're a lovely, soothing thing to hold in your hand, and can make pretty cute little ornaments too.

In this workshop, we will explore a range of techniques in relief carving.
No previous woodworking experience is necessary, and this workshop can provide a great opportunity to commence a woodworking journey of discovery - or to have a taste of what might be possible. Even if you are a seasoned woodworker, there are always new things to learn and experience. Wood Carving is wonderfully engrossing and relaxing!

We will teach you to safely and efficiently use whittling knives, and then apply those skills to create something lovely.
No previous woodworking experience is necessary. This workshop might just start you on a woodworking journey of discovery - or to have a taste of what might be possible.
