Death Café creates conversations in which death is a part of everyday life. Join us at Princes Hill Community Centre for this free event where we’ll be warm and cosy, with tea and cakes provided. Perhaps you’ll decide to come with a friend but if you choose to come alone you’ll feel welcome and at ease.  You’ll have a chance to speak or simply listen to a wide range of stories, experiences, and questions. Walk through the historic streets of North Carlton to enjoy its pleasant 19th century streetscapes, while learning about its history, its forgotten prison, plus stories of the British, Jewish and Italian migrants who settled there Starting point is outside the Carlton Library in Rathdowne St, North Carlton.

On this walk through the historic and interesting streets of Carlton you will see and hear something of its colourful history from the 1860s to the present day. Among the highlights will be finding remnants of the Carlton of the 1860s before the era of the cast-iron terraces, and of its 19th century institution, and learning something of its more notorious crimes, notable migrants, and more recent public controversies. Starting point is the Church of All Nations in Palmerston Street, Carlton.

Botanically print a beautiful silk scarf with local leaves and take it home to wear. While your scarf is in the cooking pot, learn more about mordanting, eco-printing and preparing fabric. We will also learn some furoshiki (Japanese wrapping cloth) forms that you can use for gift wrapping or for carrying a variety of objects. A pre-mordanted silk scarf will be provided for you to take home at the end of the workshop. Bring along any leaves and flowers you would like to use in your eco-printing and bring a hammer to use for the flower contact printing.
