Monthly Clay and Sip - March

Saturday 21 March 2026
Join us for a casual and fun class of hand building pottery. In this two hour session, you can enjoy your beverage of choice while you hand build with our beautiful clay. Our experienced pottery teacher will provide guidance to build a mug, pot, bowl, or other vessel of your choice. Past attendees have made jewellery dishes, berry bowls, incense holders, sculptures, pet dishes... Cute and creative examples will be provided for inspiration! But as always, you are more than welcome to BYO inspo and create whatever your heart desires. "Underglaze" is available for you to decorate your vessel with colour during the session or choose one of 3 glaze colours. Work will be clear glazed and fired by the studio and available for collection after approximately 4 weeks. We encourage handwashing your pieces. Only food-safe glazes are used. Suitable for people aged 13 and over. Directed at beginners but all skill levels are welcome. BYO drinks if desired. Tea/coffee available at the studio.

Studio Time - Self Directed

Between Tuesday 10 March 2026 and Tuesday 28 April 2026
Studio Time is a casual self directed and self paced opportunity to create among a group of other clay-lovers. There are indoor and outdoor work spaces, four pottery wheels, equipment and tools. Clay is available for purchase at $10/kilo (including two firings and glazing). Just bring along your creativity and an apron if you plan on getting muddy! Suitable for persons aged 15 and over.

Pottery Wheel Taster Class

*Private Pottery Class for your group only* Click "Book Now" for pricing for different group sizes. Relax and get muddy with this introduction to "throwing clay" on the pottery wheel! This is a casual session for absolute beginners where you will be welcome to experience the magic of the wheel with some guidance and no pressure. In this session, participants will: - View a demonstration on how to use a potter's wheel - Learn the skills to centre, open, and pull up clay to form a cylinder or bowl - Throw your own handmade pottery Each participant may choose two of their favourite pieces which our team at Santai Studio will trim, fire, glaze, and fire for you. Three glaze colours will be available. Pottery will be ready to collect after around 4 weeks. Please wear old clothes or an apron as you will get muddy! Closed in shoes recommended. All Ages Pottery Class

Between Wednesday 8 April 2026 and Wednesday 15 April 2026
This is an all ages (8+) and abilities class where we encourage families, friends & children to share the fun of clay. Participants are welcome to bring their imaginative ideas and design their own creation. The class runs for 1.5 hours and includes up to half a kilo of clay to create with. We also have plenty of inspiration to get you started. You could create something whimsical and sculptural (like a pet dragon), or something practical and useful (like a bowl or cup). The choice is yours! Coloured underglazes are provided for you to decorate your piece. All work will be clear glazed and fired on site and ready for collection around 4 weeks after the class. For people aged 8 and over. Taught by local artist and potter Denya Hunt.

The Art of Pinch Pottery - with Gabrielle Vines

Saturday 11 April 2026
Join local artist and ceramicist Gabrielle Vines for an in-depth class on decorated pinch pots. In this three-hour workshop, Gabrielle will share some of her secrets to creating fine, delicate pottery that embraces into the organic, earthy qualities of hand-built vessels. During the class, you will be guided to create one or two pieces of your own design that can be decorated in a range of colour choices. You will learn tried and true techniques to make pinch potting easier and more intuitive. Including how to properly prepare your clay, pinch to create even walls, and smooth and refine your forms using simple tools like wooden spoons. Gabrielle will then show you her techniques for creating whimsical and intricate designs by carving relief or "sgraffito" through underglaze to expose the raw clay underneath. Work will be clear glazed and fired by the studio and available for collection after approximately four weeks. We encourage hand washing your ceramics. Only food-safe glazes are used. Suitable for beginners and potters with some experience. Recommended for people aged 16 and over. BYO drinks if desired. Tea and coffee available at the studio.

4 Week INTERMEDIATE Pottery Wheel Course (From April 23)

Thursday 23 April 2026
This is a 4-week course designed for wheel throwers with enough experience to want to make more complex vessels. This course is NOT SUITABLE for beginners. Join Lindsay Descovich for a skills-focused wheel course that can be tailored around overcoming challenges (e.g. throwing taller, lighter, faster, more consistently) or tackling particular projects (e.g. teapots, closed forms, large forms, throwing in multiple parts). Participants will let Lindsay know prior to the course what they aim to achieve. *Important Note* Price not inclusive of materials or firing! Clay and firing may be purchased separately from our studio ($12/kg includes clay and firing). You are welcome to BYO clay and fire elsewhere. This course does not include a glazing session. Class meets weekly on Thursday from 6.00pm to 8.30pm. Suitable for persons aged 16 and over. Course cancellations require one week’s notice. Make-up sessions cannot be provided.

Mini Potters (8 Week Course) T2 2026

Tuesday 28 April 2026
The Mini Potters Program is an 8 week course for 8-12 year olds, where we explore each child’s artistic expression. This course is designed to promote mindfulness, mental health and confidence in a safe and welcoming space. Students learn and practice a range of technical pottery skills. Kids can expect to make a range of artworks including, but not limited to, cups, mugs, bowls, vases, sculptures, and anything their imagination can create. Techniques will be demonstrated, but there is plenty of scope for individual ideas. Classes run weekly on Tuesdays from April 28 - June 16, between 3.30 - 5.00pm. The last few minutes of class are focused on cleaning our workspace. Make-up lessons are not available. Please read our terms prior to booking. This course is run by Denya Hunt. Denya has a Diploma of Arts and runs her own pottery business specialising in colourful and quirky ceramics. She has been leading classes for young makers since 2022.

Pottery Apprentice Program (8 Week Course) T2 2026

Friday 1 May 2026
The Pottery Apprentice Program is an intensive 8 week pottery course where teen potters will develop their personal style and express creative ideas. Students make, glaze and fire a number of functional and sculptural pieces. Techniques will be demonstrated, but there is plenty of scope for individual artistic expression. Specifically, the curriculum includes: • Throwing and trimming pots on a pottery wheel • Hand building with coils, pinch pots and slab • Sculpture • Exploring glaze mediums • Studio safety and maintenance Classes run weekly on Fridays from May 1 - June 19, between 3.45 - 5.45pm. The last 10 minutes of class are focused on cleaning our tools and equipment. Make-up lessons are not available. Please read terms prior to booking. Suitable for ages 12-18. This course is run by Denya Hunt. Denya has a Diploma of Arts and her own pottery business specialising in colourful and quirky ceramics.

Quiet Clay - Neurodivergent Inclusive Class

Quiet Clay is a calm, structured pottery session designed with neurodivergent adults and teens in mind - and anyone seeking a quieter, low-stimulation creative space. What to expect: • A short, simple demonstration • Printed step-by-step guidance at your table • 2 hours of self-directed making • No forced conversation • No loud music This class is designed to support comfort and autonomy. You are welcome to wear headphones, take breaks, stim, or move around as needed. Participants who prefer not to engage verbally are fully supported - all instructions are provided in written form, with optional verbal explanation. Please note: this is a recreational class. Participants need to be able to work independently within a small group setting. Support workers are welcome - please indicate this in the booking form. 5 Week Pottery Wheel Course (From May 11)

Monday 11 May 2026
This is a 5 week course that caters to beginners, or potters with some introductory experience wanting to improve their abilities. The focus is on making functional vessels on the pottery wheel. Potters with some experience may wish to learn to learn new techniques. Use of the studio tools, wheels, clay, firing and glazes all included. At the end of the course, you should expect to have produced around 6 to 8+ food-safe and dishwasher-safe pieces of functional ceramics. Each student has a wheel for their exclusive use during classes. The class meets every Monday 6pm to 8:30pm, from May 11 - June 15 (NO CLASS June 8). Students will be part of a community studio and participate in tidying their tools and space at the end of class. Suitable for persons aged 16 and over. Course cancellations require one week notice. Make-up sessions cannot be provided for missed classes (students may join public studio time classes at their own cost). Course is taught by Karen McDonald.
