Step into the world of ceramicist and artist Gabrielle Vines for an intimate workshop in the quiet magic of clay. In this three-hour class, Gabrielle will guide you through the gentle process of shaping small, beautiful objects entirely by hand.
You'll leave with two or more original pieces of your own imagining, each finished with your choice of colour from our underglaze palette. Along the way, Gabrielle will walk you through her approach to preparing and coaxing clay into form - building even walls through pinching, smoothing surfaces with humble tools like wooden spoons, and refining edges until they feel just right. Functional forms such as ring dishes, jewellery trays, hanging shelves and incense stick holders make functional starting points, though sculptural pieces are equally welcome.
The decorating techniques are where things get a little magic: you'll learn sgraffito, the art of carving through layers of underglaze to reveal the raw clay beneath - a process that lends itself beautifully to intricate, relief-like designs. Whether you leave with something delicate and refined or bold and expressive, this workshop is an invitation to slow down, get earthy, and make something entirely your own.
Work will be clear glazed and fired by the studio and available for collection after approximately four weeks. We encourage hand washing your ceramics. Only food-safe glazes are used.
Suitable for beginners and potters with some experience. Recommended for people aged 16 and over. BYO drinks if desired. Tea and coffee available at the studio.
