Piano Quartets
Virtuosi Tasmania presents Robert Schumann’s sweepingly lyrical Piano Quartet in E flat major, opus 47. Written in 1842 it keeps the piano constantly in the spotlight, inspired surely by the brilliant playing of his beloved wife, Clara. Clara wrote of it, ‘(it is) a beautiful work, so youthful and fresh, as if it were his first.’
The Schumann is followed by the rich and powerful E flat Piano Quartet of Antonin Dvorak. Featuring, in our Music Director Jennifer Owen’s words, the most beautiful cello solo of all time, this piece is widely considered one of Dvorak’s most delightful compositions
