Seaton is a clinical psychologist who has worked in public hospital settings, including acute outreach, case management and brief intervention roles. He spent 7 years with the St Vincent’s Hospital's pain clinic, delivering pain education groups involving an intensive 3 week outpatient program to support people experiencing chronic pain. He now works as a psychology educator at a large metropolitan health network in East Melbourne.This presentation explores the interplay between Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and chronic pain, with a focus on treatments for each: cognitive processing therapy (CPT) & cognitive behavioural therapy. The presentation will explore how PTSD can exacerbate chronic pain and vice versa, examining the underlying mechanisms. Practical implications for integrated assessment and treatment approaches, particularly utilizing CPT, will be discussed. Attendees will gain insights into evidence-based strategies for managing comorbid PTSD and chronic pain concurrently.
