2024 UWA Asian Studies Symposium
About
You are invited to a half-day symposium, Asia as Crucible: Forging Novel Analytical Units and Approaches, hosted by the Discipline of Asian Studies in the School of Social Sciences. This event coincides with the Congress of the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) at the University of Western Australia. In the face of climate change, aging populations, declining fertility rates, the rapid advancement of generative AI, and other global and local challenges, conventional analytical units like the sovereign state or nuclear family are increasingly inadequate in capturing the complexities of the contemporary world. This one-day event will convene a distinguished group of Asian studies scholars to explore how Asia’s unique and dynamic contexts serve as crucibles for shifting paradigms, introducing new units of analysis, and developing innovative approaches to understand better and address these pressing global and local issues.
