Introducing our Brave Speakers...
At 26, Taryn Hoffman was a young dreamer, deeply in love and filled with hopes for the future, when a diagnosis of a right temporal lobe brain tumor meant that life took a rapid and unexpected turn. The road back was not only physically demanding but emotionally devastating. The trauma of the experience left Taryn struggling with severe anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. Taryn shares her story of courage, determination and recovery - taking back the life that she thought had been stripped from her.
Alon grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. But when he was 10 years old, his life was uprooted. Alon was increasingly isolated from the home he once had and in the years that followed sustained physical and emotional abuse, journeying through complex mental health issues. To cope, Alon turned to alcohol, sending him down a negative spiral. Through love and supportive intervention, Alon is now breaking this cycle. He shares his story to challenge stereotypes and shine a light on the stories of children that may otherwise fall through the cracks.
When Nadine experienced her first depressive episode around her 20th birthday, despite her parents' fears, she was relieved to have a name for her experience. In the years that followed, Nadine's mental health continued to fluctuate but by her mid-30s she feel into a deeper depression. Nadine wrote a book that explores her breakdown and the journey of healing that followed. She joins Brave Talks to share her story of what led to this breakdown and how through holding complexity we can continue to heal.
