About
***This event has moved!*** Join David Flack for a glass of sparkling at Avenue Bookstore, Albert Park.David Flack takes us into the expressive residential spaces and chic commercial environments Flack Studio have designed in the last decade. Get an intimate take on projects contained within Flack Studio: Interiors as he chats to Tim Byrne.
Launched in 2014, Flack Studio is a wildly creative, multidisciplinary practice of designers and architects driven by an adventurous sensibility. Furniture, lighting, textiles, fittings, and vivid colour coalesce into a holistic yet idiosyncratic experience. A deep sense of materiality, a passion for contemporary art, and an embrace of local community and makers are hallmarks of Flack’s projects, which include homes and restaurants throughout Australia, Los Angeles, Seoul and the Ace Hotel in Sydney.
In Flack Studio: Interiors, the creative flair that defines Flack Studio’s design philosophy is on display in a selection of projects curated by Flack himself. Hear how David Flack and his team balance contemporary aesthetics with a warm, inviting atmosphere, his bold use of colour and a meticulous attention to detail. This conversation is the closing event of Flack's east coast tour and is not to be missed.
Enjoy a glass of sparkling on arrival. The conversation will be followed by a signing.
David Flack founded Flack Studios a decade ago, quickly achieving acclaim for an iconoclastic approach to interiors marked by material, formal and spatial experimentation. A three-time Architectural Digest ‘AD100’ laureate, he grew up in rural Australia, the son of a builder, and credits this background for an approach which despite its evident glamour is anchored in honesty, integrity, and clarity of vision. All qualities he imbues into a vibrant studio of architects, interior and product designers based in a former electro-plating workshop in Melbourne’s inner-city Fitzroy district.
Tim Byrne is a bookseller and freelance arts critic and journalist. His writing regularly appears in The Guardian, The Age and Australian Book Review. He has conducted hundreds of author interviews, from Tim Winton to Magda Szubanski, Griffin Dunne to Jimmy Barnes.
