Co-occurring Mental Health Challenges experienced by PWID/DD
Presented by Clare Schwarz. Clare is a Registered Nurse (Mental Health) and the Director of Ember Health and Disability Services, which provides Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) services in the Brisbane, Toowoomba and Ipswich areas. In her current role, Clare leads a team dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities through evidence-based, trauma-informed behaviour support. She is committed to addressing the complex intersection of mental health and disability, advocating for better recognition of mental health needs among NDIS participants, and reducing diagnostic overshadowing.
In this presentation, Clare will explore the challenges faced when supporting NDIS participants with both intellectual/developmental disabilities and mental health conditions (dual diagnosis).
