Foundation to Year 2: Early reading instruction and foundational literacy practices
This session will outline the what, why and how of Primary English in the early years:
• Teaching phonics systematically and explicitly
• Teaching transcription
• Building reading fluency
• Developing oral language, vocabulary and reading comprehension
• Sentences and grammar
• Moving from sentence to text generation
• Reading assessment principles and practices in the early years
• Time allocation and overall fit
This session is designed to be practical, research-aligned, and responsive to the unique contexts of participating schools.
