This session will outline our best bets for teaching reading and writing across grades and subjects in secondary schools:
• Text appraisal and selection
• How to read texts
• Developing fluent, accountable independent readers
• Habits of discussion and checking for comprehension
• Vocabulary instruction
• Writing to learn and text generation
• Screening for reading difficulties in secondary settings
This session is designed to be practical, research-aligned, and responsive to the unique contexts of participating schools.
