About
Catherine Hall co-convenor of the Australian Society of Archivists special interest groups invites Local Studies members to a tour and training day at Xavier College Archive in Kew.We will tour their archive and explore their processes around donations, accessioning, their online collection, advocacy internally and external and an informal Q&A.
The aim of the day is to learn from best practice collection management of unique items from an archive of similar size facing similiar issues and opportunities as public libraries.
Plenty of parking is available onsite with train and tram stops nearby.

9:30 Welcome. About Xavier College and it's archive and goals.
9:35 Donation process including the need to collect provenance details,
10:00 Tour of physical archive collection
10:30 Morning Tea
10:45 Accessioning items (this most time consuming and critical aspect of collection management library staff need to get across)
12:00 Overview of online collection
Lunch 12:30 – 2:00pm at local pub (pay our own way).
2:30 Advocating internally and externally
3:00 Q&A with Catherine Hall from Xavier College and her co-convenor from Methodist Ladies College – Lead by Nicole
4:00 'Wins and challenges' round table and share a key takeaway from today – Lead by Nicole
