DOUBLE LECTURE: THE PLANT HUNTER & RISE OF BOTANIC GARDEN
DOUBLE LECTURE: THE PLANT HUNTER & RISE OF BOTANIC GARDEN
This double lecture session, presented by Kenneth Park, offers a lavishly illustrated journey looking the fascinating world of the plant hunter and then the story of the otanic garden. Plant hunters traveled often to remote and often dangerous locations to 'discover, collect, and introduce new plants for scientific study, commercial trade, and ornamental gardening. Historically, this often involved expeditions to other continents, particularly during the 18th and 19th centuries, driven by scientific curiosity, economic motives, and the desire to enrich botanical gardens and private collections". Many of these plants would find their way into botanic gardens. A botanical garden or botanic garden is a garden with a documented collection of living plants for the purpose of scientific research, conservation, display, and education.
Ticket includes TWO lectures and morning tea.
