A Sleep of Prisoners

A Sleep of Prisoners

hero

A slice of Queensland entertainment history will be recreated with a performance tribute to the 60th anniversary of the first television drama ever produced in Brisbane. A Sleep of Prisoners, a verse play by legendary English dramatist Christopher Fry, is being staged for one night only at the Cathedral. This is almost 60 years to the day after the same play was filmed live by ABC television in St John’s in 1961, becoming the first small-screen drama made and broadcast in Brisbane. This historic performance will be performed by the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble as a staged reading.

Those who wish to attend this event 'in-person' are encouraged to register in advance. Health directives issued in response to the Covid-19 outbreak state that if you have symptoms of a respiratory disease you are not to attend. People who are classified as vulnerable are advised that current health advice recommends that they do not attend. The decision to attend or not ultimately rests with the vulnerable person.
