Introduction to attachment based therapy
This workshop will cover attachment theory and explore the principles of attachement based therapy. Interventions and approaches used in attachment based therapy will be explored and there will be an opportunity to apply these principles and strategies to a clinical case.
Aim of session
- Provide an overview of attachment theory in the context of attachment based therapy
- Explore the unconscious defense mechanisms of suppression, avoidance or amplification and overemphasis in response to early attachment experience
- Explore attachment based therapy with a focus on interventions and approaches based on attachment theory
- Explore early attachment and later development
- Explore a lifespan perspective on attachment
Learning objectives
- Gain an understanding of attachment theory
- Gain an understanding of the theory and practice of attachment based therapy
- Understand and begin to apply attachment based therapy principles to clinical cases to improve treatment outcomes

YOUR FACILITATOR
Therese Raulin is a child psychoanalytic psychotherapist who runs her own pratice in Malvern, Victoria. She offers psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults, and has a special interest in interpersonal trauma, early life and post-partum depression and attachment difficulties. She has held senior management positions responsible for clinical governance, therapeutic service delivery and innovation across various sectors. She is a current member of the Child Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Association of Asutralia, the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists Association of Australia and the Australian Association of Infant Mental Health.
