Join Gilbert’s Potoroo Action Group (GPAG), DNA Zoo Australia/University of Western Australia & Department of Biodiversity, Conservation & Attractions for an afternoon event to unveil the genome puzzle for the world's rarest marsupial, Gilbert’s Potoroo, & learn about the importance of genetics for endangered species conservation.

The genome will be launched by former WA Chief Scientist Prof Lyn Beazley & followed by a truffle-themed afternoon tea & time for discussion, socialising & participation in puzzles & activities.

1:00 pm: Arrivals to EZONE Central HDR Sky Gardens, tea/coffee & browse displays etc
1:30 pm: Welcome to the event & Gilbert's Potoroo Action Group update by Dr Alan Needham
1:40 pm: Overview of creating the Gilbert's Potoroo genome by Assoc Prof Parwinder Kaur, DNA Zoo Australia
1:50 pm: Update on progress on the Gilbert's Potoroo genomics project by Dr Kym Ottewell, DBCA
2:00 pm: Keynote address and launch of the Gilbert's Potoroo genome by former WA Chief Scientist Prof Lyn Beazley
2:15 pm: Housekeeping 
2:20 pm: Socialising, networking and exploring activities over a truffle themed afternoon tea
 
The event is FREE but BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL for catering purposes and to adhere to COVID distancing restrictions.

The genome assembly work was enabled by in-kind resources provided by DNA Zoo Australia, The University of Western Australia and DNA Zoo, Aiden Lab at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) with additional computational resources and support from the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre with funding from the Australian Government and the Government of Western Australia.
