TUCK SHOP LADIES WITH LITTLE WISE AND GUEST SUSIE KEYNES
About
Fruit were the first band to play at Trinity Sessions back in 2002. While we can't get Fruit back for various logistical reasons (we did manage it in 2017for two sold out shows), we will have Sam Lohs and Susie Keynes (from Fruit) on the stage again for part of the evening; joining the fabulous line-up of The Tuck Shop Ladies and Little Wise. The triceps ain’t what they used to be but the funny bone has only gotten sharper. The Tuck Shop Ladies are an amalgamation of Australian folk music darlings Sam Lohs (Fruit) and Rosie Burgess (Rosie Burgess Trio). Strapping on a pair of ukuleles, the duo pull back the curtain to share an intimate selection of the often ridiculous, but always harmonious songs that were birthed in the back of a tour van, to amuse themselves.
“You get a lot more than your average school lunch from these Tuck Shop Ladies…” (Chris Thomson, Behind The Scenes).
Having played a huge number of festivals across Australia, Canada and the United States, the pair are no strangers to engaging with audiences large and small. Renowned for the joy they bring to the stage, alongside their innate musicality, the Tuck Shop Ladies do not disappoint.
Their live show is an insight into the relationship of touring musicians, and the result of what happens when everyday life is a Broadway musical. The Tuck Shop Ladies invite you into their hilarious world and leave you wanting to run away on tour with the band.
“I’ll never look at pigeons quite the same way again…” (Chris, again).
Little Wise makes music for the drifters and the dreamers. Brimming with melodic hooks and a piercing, heart-on-sleeve lyricism, she conjures a magnetic collision of vintage Americana and modern folk-rock. “Little Wise sings with the wisdom of an old soul” (triple j).
Her latest single Heart Beats Quicker (out 14 April 2022) marks a bold new direction for the artist born Sophie Klein. Crystalline electric guitars cut through ambient new-wave synths, and a driving rhythm section propels the listener towards a disarmingly simple yet anthemic chorus.
A festival favourite, Little Wise has toured widely across Australia, with appearances at Nannup, Tamworth, Mount Beauty, and St Kilda Live n’ Local, among others. She has supported Frazey Ford (Canada) and ARIA-award-winning outfit The Audreys, plus showcased internationally at Americanafest (Nashville) and Mondo (New York City). Her first album Silver Birch was released in 2016 to critical acclaim, winning Best Debut Release in Rhythms Magazine’s Writers Poll, and receiving airplay on community radio across the country. 2019’s sophomore offering Want It All conjures a classic pop-rock landscape, “somewhere between the growl of PJ Harvey and simmering tension of The Velvet Underground” (Scenstr).
The Tuck Shop Ladies and Little Wise will be joined by very special guest Susie Keynes (from the acclaimed touring band ‘Fruit’); she and Sam will be reuniting and performing a couple of surprise Fruit numbers to help celebrate 20 years of Trinity Sessions.
