BLUE MOUNTAINS CAMINO SUPPORTERS
MAY Training Walk and Camino Meetup
SATURDAY 28 May 2022
CAMINO TRAINING WALK + MEETUP - Wentworth Falls
JOIN US for our regular last Saturday of the month Camino-style walk - this month in Wentworth Falls. You may have already walked a Camino in Europe or you may aspire to one day walk a Camino or other pilgrimages. Walking with the Blue Mountains Camino group is an opportunity to walk in the beautiful Blue Mountains with like-minded people. You will learn more about preparing for a Camino and why our walks are more than just a walk.
There will be two options for the training walk on Saturday 28 May 2022 - an Easy Walk and Medium-Hard Walk. They have different starting points this month. Read walk descriptions carefully!
There will also be an informal Camino meetup at the Grand View hotel in Wentworth Falls afterwards, where lunch and drinks can be purchased (at own cost).
Walk 1 - Easy. Wentworth Falls and lake walk.
Meet at Wentworth Falls Station near the Public Toilets on Station St. 9am - 1pm. Arrive by 8:45am.
This walk will include a walk around Wentworth Falls Lake and the flatter section of the Nature Track, down to the Conservation Hut and return to Wentworth Falls via road. A coffee stop will be available at the Lake. Or your thermos and snacks. This walk will be approx 11KM and will take around 3.5 hours.
Walk 2 - Medium (but long). Ingar Fire Road walk.
PLEASE NOTE: Walk 2 is much longer than our normal Medium Walk ( 22km and takes around 6hrs.) It does NOT start at Wentworth Falls Station. You will need to drive or get a lift to the start of the walk (Kings Tableland).
Meet on Kings Tableland Road opposite Queen Elizabeth Drive. 8.30am - 2.30pm. Arrive by 8:15am.
Start walk by visiting the Kings Tableland Aboriginal Place with it's many grinding grooves and water holes. From this scenic view point drop down onto Ingar Road and walk along the dirt fire road to the pretty Ingar dam. Toilets at dam. Return same way. Approx 22km return with a 350 m change in elevation - approx 6hrs. The walk includes spectacular scenery, varying vegetation, Aboriginal sites, and a lunch stop beside the pretty Ingar dam. This is a true Camino walk, following dirt roads with no steps. However, the return walk involves a long, and in some parts steep, fire road climb back to Kings Tableland.
To join this walk you must have walked with the Blue Mountains Camino group previously - no first timers. You also need to be confident of your fitness as there are no exit points - you're committed as it's down to the dam and then up again.
* You must bring lunch and some snacks.
* You must carry at least 1.5 litres of water.

WALKING SAFETY
Please read this before you attempt any of our training walks.
You are welcome on our walks, but please read the following carefully before deciding to do a walk.
Your safety is your responsibility. You must know your walking ability.
The walk coordinator on the day has the authority to withdraw you from the walk if they believe the walk is not suitable for you and they believe you may put yourself (and others) at risk.
1. Read our notes about the walk carefully, and be aware of the difference between the grades of walks.
Easy walks are usually on well formed fire roads or bush paths, with limited stairs or steep parts. Minimum elevation gain. Distance 5-12kms.
Medium walks also include walking on well formed fire roads and bush paths but are generally more challenging walks and faster pace. People more accustomed to bushwalking trails should consider this option, but if you're not experienced on rougher ground, or are not confident about your current fitness level then walkers should choose the first (Easy) walk to build up their confidence. Distances typically 12-16kms.
2. Do not attempt any walk if you have any health concerns at all.
3. Wear appropriate footwear and bring ample water (minimum 1.5litres). Walking poles can be useful.
4. Wear and bring appropriate walking gear, the weather in the mountains can change rapidly so always have a rain jacket or poncho. A hat for sun and rain protection.
5. Basic First Aid Kit including snake bandage, sunscreen, insect repellent.
4. The group is only as fast as its slowest walker. If you are unsure about being able to keep up with the group for the entire walk, start with the Easy Walk.
5. All walkers will meet at the start of the walk. If you are unsure of the route, make sure you buddy up with someone who does. An experienced walker will always be at the rear of the group.
