Monthly Talk - the Jessop & Appleby Crane, Tony Sprent AM
About
The Jessop and Appleby Steam Crane has been a landmark at Constitution Dock in Hobart for the last 120 years. It arrived in Hobart in 1899 and was mainly used for loading apples for export, as well as lifting boilers, machinery and heavy loads right up to the 1960s. Sadly, there are few examples of early industrial machinery like this crane still remaining. A brief history of the crane and the technology used will be presented, as well as a current project to build a working scale model.Location
