The narrative of a virgin journeying to motherhood has inspired great artists and composers for thousands of years. Its focus is often on her purity, her spiritual devotion, and without reference to the mental and physical struggles of pregnancy as a young woman.Castalia presents ‘Her Eyes’, a musical and artistic exploration of Mary as a woman outside of her spiritual status. Composers such as Alice Chance, Brooke Shelley, Herbert Howells, Elliot Gyger and Francis Poulenc, are paired with artists including Botticelli, Da Vinci, and Picasso.
