The Romance and Development of the Australian Wool Industry

“The Romance and Development of the Australian Wool Industry in the Nineteenth Century: Some Trends in the Growth of Time.”
An Australia Heritage Festival Event with Dr James Donaldson. Where he will explore the greatest expansion of wool production in the history of the world. From humble beginnings on the N.S.W. Cumberland coastal plain, before the crossing of the Blue Mountains in 1814, the evolution of wool production was nothing less than spectacular. This is a story of European outback courage and tenacity from pioneers involved in the Australian pastoral industry, yet one that involved a loss of homeland and severe social disruption for the indigenous inhabitants who had formerly occupied the lands. A display of shearing tools, both hand blade-shears and mechanical handpieces will be included in the presentation.
The PMI is a 3-5 min walk from the Prahran Station. Bookings are essential with a gold coin donation for entry.
