- Junior Boys and Girls - 11-15 years, minimum grade 8th kyu
- Padded contact - 7-17 years, minimum grade 10th kyu

Medical Clearance: All competitors 18 years of age and older must have a current medical clearance to compete in this event. No clearance no fights and no refunds will be issued for failure to provide a current medical clearance.

For Knockdown Kumite the following equipment is required:
Junior Divisions: clean dogi with appropriate badges, mouth guard, groin guard (males), protective head gear (no face guard), shin & instep protectors, and mitts as approved by IFK Australia.
Padded Contact: all of the above, and foam-dipped chest-guard (head gear and chest-guard provided by IFK Australia, if you don’t have your own)
Cadet Division: clean dogi with appropriate badges, mouth guard, groin guard (males), protective head gear (no face guard), and shin & instep protectors as approved by IFK Australia.
Novice adults: clean dogi with appropriate badges, mouth guard, groin guard (males), white shin & instep protectors as approved by IFK Australia.
Adult Open and Intermediate adults: clean dogi with appropriate badges, mouth guard, groin guard (males), shin & instep protectors as approved by IFK Australia.
Optional: Chest guards (females) but highly recommended, must be of separate cup type and must not cover the solar plexus.
For Kumite Events Body Piercings: These should be be removed. If they are unable to be removed, it is the responsibility of competitor with piercings to ensure they are adequately covered with tape The student is to supply their own tape and it is to be of a type used for rigid sports strapping eg Elastoplast Sport Rigid Strapping Tape. This is to be inspected, and the final decision for inclusion in the event will be made by the event coordinator on the day.
