Teachers are often passionate about their work, yet experience high rates of burnout. Mindfulness for Teachers is a 6-week educational program that builds resilience & self-care while reducing stress reactivity. In 2014 HeadRest were running the gold-standard MBSR course in the library at Wilkins Public School. This course was born when the principal invited us to run an introductory course for her staff. Until now we have only run this course in-school but due to demand from individual teachers we will be running an open teachers course in Marrickville in Term 2, 2019.
Mindfulness for teachers will introduce you to formal (meditation based) and informal (daily life) mindfulness practices. We then link what we are learning are linked to current psychological and scientific understandings of the brain and behaviour anad look at some applications in the classroom.
It is a beginners course and requires that you practice to 15 minutes of meditation a day for the duration of the course to get the most out of it. Mindfulnes is something you need to experience not just learn about. Once you have done in it you will be much better placed to continue to train in teaching mindfulness to your students.
Completing the entirety of this course will contribute 9 hours of NSW Educational Standards Authority (NESA) Registered PD addressing standard 6.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
The next course runs in Marrickville over 6 Thursday evenings
