Sunday 12 December 2021
5.30pm - 8.00pm
Cellist Umberto Clerici and pianist Daniel de Borah play the music of Felix Mendelssohn and Frédéric Chopin.
Program:
Felix Mendelssohn Song without words op. 109 in D Major
Frédéric Chopin Cello Sonata in G Minor, Op. 65
Frédéric Chopin Songs without words n. 8 in D Major and n. 9 in G Major from op.74
Felix Mendelssohn Cello Sonata No. 2 in D Major, op. 58
Mendelssohn (1809 - 1847) and Chopin (1810 - 1849) were contemporaries. Written in the 1840's, their cello sonatas conformed to the classical layout, an extensive use of the Sonata form and division in four movements - yet infused with a Romantic spirit. The pieces are rarely, even if unjustly, played in live concerts, particularly in Australia.
