About Peta

Peta Searle (OAM) has been breaking ground ever since she played her first game of competitive football as a nine-year-old.

On a professional level, Peta is an Australian Rules football senior coach on the move and was appointed Development Coach for the St Kilda Football Club in early 2014, the first female coach in the Australian Football League (AFL). Peta is currently Head of Women’s Football Pathway at the Saints and was heavily involved in the exciting journey of the clubs first women’s team, the Southern Saints who debuted in 2018 in the Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) competition leading the red, white and black to a preliminary final berth in 2019. That same year, the women’s pioneer was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for her services to football.

It’s an almighty honour for an equally impressive achievement, with the reputation she’s has earned as a pioneer of women’s football an inspiration for the Saints she lead into this year before an unprecedented stop.

Her football coaching pathway has been filled with firsts. The first VWFL coach to coach a team (Darebin Falcons) to 5 consecutive Premier Final wins. The first female coach in the TAC with the Western Jets. The first head coach of the AFL Victoria VWFL Academy Coach/Mentor and the first female to coach in the VFL and now the first and only female coach to coach at the AFL level. Combine this with a level 3 accreditation and a growing reputation in football ranks and you have one of the most talented coaches not to have played AFL going around.

Peta manages to combine her passionate AFL occupation with her greater love being her children, with clear and uncompromising philosophy towards parenting, coaching and development. Peta makes for both an entertaining and thought-provoking speaker on the topics of coaching, teamwork, change leadership, communication and the enjoyment of competing.
