Gender in Activist Communities

Gender in Activist Communities

This workshop will discuss the issues inherent in the construct of the ‘ideal activist’ and how gendered roles manifest within activist communities that are trying to fight against forms of oppression, and espouse a progressive world view. Informed by the article ‘Doing enough of the ‘right’ thing: the gendered dimension of the ‘ideal activist’ identity and its negative emotional consequences’ by Emma Craddock who looks at how gendered roles were appearing in British anti-austerity movements.
